Ethnicity is crucial when matching patients with donors. Due to the severe shortage of ethnic minorities in the Be The Match Registry, ethnic and diverse patients are less likely to find a matching donor. Descents of Asian Pacific Islander, African American, Hispanic/Latino, Native Indian and mixed-race are highly encouraged to register.
