Aaron was an avid traveler, hiker, swimmer, language enthusiast and a baker of delicious caffeinated cookies. He was diagnosed with stage IV lymphoma shortly after his 33rd birthday, and his only chance of a cure is a bone marrow transplant.
Aaron’s was mixed ethnicity, Chinese and Jewish, and his ancestry made it unusually difficult to find a matching donor. Because of all the people who registered in Aaron’s name, he was able to find a matching donor. Aaron had his transplant in March 2017.
However, due to complications, Aaron passed away on October 21, 2017. Aaron was a man of incredible intellect, resilience, and kindness. In the buddhist tradition, mourners were invited to lay flowers into a bowl and around Aaron’s picture. This was reminiscent of the Jewish tradition in which mourners are invited to add three shovels of dirt at the burial of a loved one. How fitting that even as we said goodbye you bridged your two cultures. Aaron I was so lucky to know you and I am so sorry you’re gone. I hope we sent you off with the knowledge of how much you are loved and missed.
