Derek is a typical active 12 year old boy. He loves playing video games, building LEGO models, and playing baseball. He was diagnosed with leukemia (AML) in August of 2015. He spent most of 7th grade in chemotherapy and went into remission. Derek was unable to find a matching donor because of his complex ethnicity. He did receive a haploidentical transplant using his mother’s stem cells in November 2016.
