Nalini

in-loving-memory-nalini-ambadyNalini  was a Stanford University professor and a mom of two daughters. In 2004, Nalini was diagnosed with Acute Myelogenus Leukemia (AML), which is a cancer of the blood. After 8 years in remission, Nalini’s leukemia returned and this time she needed a bone marrow transplant to survive. Her donor must match her, genetically. Nalini’s team, Nalini Needs You, worked hard to educate the community and provide a worldwide awareness, host drives and recruit healthy donors. After a failed search for a perfect match, Nalini decided on a cord blood transplant. She underwent a transplant in the summer of 2013. Due to complications, Nalini passed away. The number of South Asians in the bone marrow registries is very low and we encourage anyone willing and able to register to help patients like Nalini who are in need of a life saving match.
