Sophia

IMG_2869

Sophia really likes to roller skate and participate in P.E. at school. However, most of the time her energy level is very low and she struggles to keep up with her classmate because she is smaller than most. Sophia was born with Hemoglobin E-Beta Thalassemia disease. She requires monthly blood transfusions and takes daily medication to make sure her immune system functions properly. Sophia wishes she can live a “normal life” with, no more blood transfusions or medication. Her blood disease is treatable with a bone marrow/stem cell transplant. Because Sophia is Lao and Cambodian, her best chance for a match would be from someone who is also Lao, Cambodian or Asian descent. Help make Sophia’s wish come true and register today!

Would I be able to donate bone marrow/stem cells as a 20 y/o Sino-Khmer woman for Sophia even if she’s Khmer-Laotian? And would it be possible to send the donation across the border since I live in Canada? I looked at the forms and registration but it asked for State I live in and I don’t like in the US 🙁 xoxo stay strong Sophia, beautiful girl <3

Yes, you could be considered for Sophia. Once you join the Registry, you could potentially match anyone in the world, not just Sophia. Canada has their own registry and you will need to register with them https://www.blood.ca/en/stem-cell/onematch-information-new-registrants . You will not be able to register her in the US. The Canadian Registry will be searched as well for Sophia and other searching patients.
