Tom is a minister at the Sozenji Temple. He enjoys performing and teaching Taiko and his favorite past-time is spending time with his little grandson, Cody. Tom is Japanese-American and was diagnosed with T-Cell Leukemia-Lymphoma in 2017 and was searching for a bone marrow donor. Since ethnicity plays a crucial role when finding a matching donor, Tom asked the Japanese community for help. Japanese-Americans only make 0.3% of the national Be The Match Registry. Tom received his life saving transplant in 2017 and now Cody has his grandpa (Ojīchan) back.
