Two Chinese adoptees reunite to find a bone marrow donor

March 12, 2015

They were good friends from the very start. Then they were adopted and would never see each other again. Until now.
Mae Mai 2Mai and Mae established their friendship at Guangxi orphanage in China. They were abandoned as toddlers. Both girls were adopted by American families and moved to the U.S. and they thought they would never see each other again, until now. Their reunion was made through a Facebook group observation. Mai and Mae suffer from a blood disease, thalassemia. Thalassemia is rare in the U.S. but common in Asia and its treatment requires frequent blood transfusion and bone marrow transplant.
Unfortunately, Mae is not responding well to treatments and now her family are searching for a bone marrow donor who could help save her life. Because ethnicity is crucial to matching donors with patient’s HLA type, Mae and Mai’s donor will be someone who is Chinese or Asian descent. Please consider registering today to help Mae and Mai or one of the 12,000 searching patients around the world.

Registering as a marrow donor takes less than 10 minutes of your time and your lifetime commitment to helping save someone’s life.
