Mai and Mae established their friendship at Guangxi orphanage in China. They were abandoned as toddlers. Both girls were adopted by American families and moved to the U.S. and they thought they would never see each other again, until now. Their reunion was made through a Facebook group observation. Mai and Mae suffer from a blood disease, thalassemia. Thalassemia is rare in the U.S. but common in Asia and its treatment requires frequent blood transfusion and bone marrow transplant.Unfortunately, Mae is not responding well to treatments and now her family are searching for a bone marrow donor who could help save her life.
